Fortnite's next big patch comes out tomorrow. While we don't know every new bit of content coming to the game, we do have some idea of what to expect.
As with most patches (as opposed to content updates) the first thing you need to be aware of is downtime. Epic Games will be bringing down Fortnite servers 1 am PT / 4 am ET. Downtime varies, but typically lasts anywhere from one to two hours.
Let's take a look at what's coming in the v10.30 patch.
Two New Rift Zones
Two new Rift Beacons appeared last week. The first appeared at Paradise Palms while the second showed up at the ice lake beneath Polar Peak.
It seems quite likely, given past Rift Zones, that we'll see the return of Moisty Mires (where Paradise Palms currently stands) and Greasy Grove, which is trapped beneath the ice lake.
It's likely, also, that these will not be the same as we remember them, at least not entirely. Other Rift Zones this season have brought back previous locations, but always with a twist.
Some of these past Rift Zones include:
There's a third Rift Zone with a big question mark by it this week also. The Pandora Rift Zone showed up recently and changed a big section of desert into Borderlands 3, with that game's cool cell-shaded art-style. It's my favorite Rift Zone so far, but I'm pretty sure we're going to have to say farewell to it tomorrow.
Unlike the rest of these Rift Zones, this one is a cross-promotional with Gearbox, whose game releases this Friday. The Borderlands 3 event in Fortnite is also coming to an end after today, which means it's your last chance to finish those challenges or buy the Mayhem cosmetics.
A New Item
So far, Epic Games hasn't announced a new item either on social media or in the in-game news feed. I will update this post if that changes. But they did drop a hint, which may be about the item or may be about something else. On Twitter, Epic posted: "Break out of your shell!" as part of its announcement for the v10.30 patch.
What could that mean? I'm immediately thinking about Koopa shells in Super Mario Bros and, of course, Ninja Turtles "in a half shell." Oh, also oysters. And seashells!
How any of these things might relate to Fortnite remains to be seen.
Other Changes
There's usually quite a bit of stuff tinkered with in a full patch. We should see the return of Ziplines, for instance, which were recently removed from the game due to technical issues.
Other changes could include:
We should also expect the dataminers to have their fun, leading to challenge leaks, skin and other cosmetic leaks, new mode leaks, new location leaks and much more. The patch will lead directly into Season 10, Week 7 on Thursday, with a fresh Mission Bundle, limited-time challenges and so forth.
We'll know more once the v10.30 patch is live tomorrow morning. See you on the battlefield.
