WASHINGTON, July 29 (Reuters) – U.S. attorney time-honored Merrick Garland on Thursday warned Texas Governor Greg Abbott to "automatically rescind" a new government order geared toward curbing the travel into the state of undocumented immigrants who may also pose a risk of transmitting COVID-19.

Garland's letter comes just a day after Abbott signed the order, which states that "no person, apart from a federal, state, or local law-enforcement official, shall provide floor transportation to a gaggle of migrants" who had been detained with the aid of federal immigration officials for crossing the border.
It additionally directs the state's branch of Public security to "cease any vehicle upon low-priced suspicion of a violation" and offers the branch authority to "reroute any such car again to its aspect of starting place or a port of entry."
