A senior officer with the Houston Police branch died on Wednesday of COVID-19, in accordance with a statement from the department's chief.

John Wilbanks — an officer with HPD for over 25 years who was most lately part of the special Operations Division — died after he had "been fighting COVID-19 for a while," in keeping with the observation.
