    Rep. Chris Johansen stepped down from the Maine condominium of Representatives on November 19. 

    He submitted his resignation letter to Democratic apartment Speaker Ryan Fecteau that equal day, calling his resolution a "complex" one. 

    Johansen observed he become stepping down to spend more time with household and have a tendency to the animals on the couple's farm after his spouse, Cindy, died from COVID-19 in August. 

    In his resignation letter, the lawmaker persisted to rail in opposition t masks and vaccine mandates.

    "The final two years had been about fighting for the principle that govt does not get to let you know the way to reside your life," Johansen wrote. "In that time I actually have misplaced my chum, my close ally, my spouse."

    In his letter, Johansen mentioned he believed there changed into "still much to be achieved to roll lower back the expansion of state power that we've witnessed these past two years."
