Chicago drops COVID-19 vaccine mandate lawsuit in opposition t police union

The city of Chicago has dropped its lawsuit towards the Fraternal Order of Police over native union President John Catanzara's push for officers to defy Mayor Lori Lightfoot's vaccine mandate.

Lightfoot had requested the courts to intervene after the union chief informed participants to disobey her Oct. 15 time limit to report their vaccine popularity. The local FOP in flip filed its personal lawsuit against the metropolis, mayor and police Superintendent David Brown that seeks to drive arbitration over the rely.

"The previous few weeks have shown what I actually have observed from the beginning to be real: that our brave cops are smarter than their FOP management, and care extra about their metropolis, their fellow Chicagoans, and upholding their sworn oath to offer protection to and serve, than they do Catanzara's frivolous demands to stop working," Lightfoot pointed out in a press release.

The FOP continues to combat the mandate. Catanzara these days retired from the police branch while the police board changed into because whether he should still be fired. He has noted he'll run for mayor in 2023, which Lightfoot mentioned could be "a present" to her.
